Every now and again, I love a shortcut. Especially one that gives me more time to do other fun things. I also love cheese. And while we always have cheese of some kind in the house, blocks of cheese tend to be reserved for special occasions and company. But when there are special occasions and/or company, there are 100s of things to do besides slicing cheese. Amaright?
So I came up with this. I don’t know if I made it up or I saw it somewhere or maybe I saw something similar or whatever, get to the point already, right?
You start with your basic block-o-cheese. This one is a super delicious Cracker Barrel Black Pepper variety. But, really, that doesn’t matter. But it is good.
Cut it into 3 equalish chunks.
Ok. Now is the fun part. Put away your cheese slicer or your knife or whatever you thought you were going to slice this cheese with. Now go get your egg slicer.
This is the one I have.
The wire slicing part comes out of mine, which makes this easy, but if yours folds over or something, it should work just as well. Just line the wire slicer up over a section of cheese and push down. Its not going to go through as easily as it goes through egg, but it should go through cheese just fine. As you get close to the cutting board, you may have to lift the block of cheese and the slicer up, turn them over and sorta push the last bit of cheese through the slicer with your thumbs.
But Viola! You just cut like, what, 8 slices of cheese at once. You do that 2 more times with the last 2 section, toss ’em on a plate with some Triscuits and you’re done. And check out those slices, they are all the same size and shape. Bonus points.
Additionally, you can take a stack of slices and cut it in half or quarters to better fit your crackers or your crowd.
